The work is a new collaboration between Bassline Circus, MHz and musicians Eva Lazarus and Mungo's Hifi with support from No Fit State Circus, Platform, Jackson’s Lane, Stratford Circus, Macrobert Arts Center, and Tramway
The production will preview at the Macrobert Arts center, Stirling (April 2019) and premier at Tramway (May 2019).
A coming-of-age online romance set in a succession of virtual paradoxes and impossible worlds.
Colliding the unlikely disciplines of hand balancing, Krump and Flexing (expressive freestyle dances with strong contortion elements).FLIP focuses on skill and high production values with a spirit of experimentation and minimalist design. The show is suitable for young/family audiences
FLIP is based on Mathias Malzieu's 'The Boy with the Cuckoo Clock Heart' updated for the reggae/ dancehall generation. A street dancing boy with a fragile nano-tech heart starts an online romance with a an Extreme selfie queen. His overbearing guardian and physician worries about the potentially fatal consequences of his pursuit, narrating the story through songs and spoken word.
As the lovers struggle to physically meet each other through digital and geographic confusion, they question each other's existence, trapped within seemingly alternate planes of reality.
